These are some of the frequently asked questions I get asked about our classes. Hopefully they will give you some quick answers you have questions to right now. However, for a better explanat ion, please call me directly so I can give you detailed solutions to your individual needs.

What is the price of your classes?
We have several programs which can meet your individual means. However, our most popular programs cost between $12-16 per class.

What days do your classes happen on?
Our classes happen during weekdays (usually late afternoons and evenings) and weekends (late mornings and mid days). Our schedule is very flexible, and fit into most people’s hectic work/family/school schedules. Therefore, if you happen to miss a class, our schedule provides easy make up options. Please call us to receive a current schedule.

What art do you exactly teach at your academy?
We focus on Bruce Lee’s art of Jeet Kune Do (JKD). This has been proven time and time again as the most effective and efficient martial art, plus it offers unique insights to personal growth and development.

How does Jeet Kune Do differ from other arts such as Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Jiu Jitsu, or even Mix Martial Arts?
Great question! In a nutshell, there are three types of schools you’ll run into: Traditional, Sport, and more "Real Life" focused. Traditional arts tend to focus on lineage, culture, and complex moves. Therefore, if this is your interest, call us so we can refer you to one of the top traditional schools in the area. Sports centered arts are for strict competition, focused on "winning well" not necessarily "living well", and tend to be too intense for most people (plus likelihood of injury is a lot higher). However, if you are interested in this area, please call us, so we can give you the number of the best sports schools in the area.

Lastly you have our school. We are only 1 of 12 certified Jeet Kune Do schools in the Midwest, and our focus on real life self-defense, coupled with individual personal growth. This seems to be what most people are looking for. In short, you have to see it to believe it. Our classes are not run like a military camp, nor do they have that "ground and pound" feel some schools have. JKD is a mixture of over two dozen arts, where we take the best from each, and discard limitations (i.e. uncomfortable or unnatural stances, tournament rules attackers don’t care about, etc.). Jeet Kune Do offers the best techniques from the best arts, plain and simple!

Do I have to buy equipment?
Many martial arts school hit you up for equipment every other month. We focus on just the essentials, and package them up for simplicity and economy. Here is what you’ll need: Gloves, shin guards, three training weapons (safety kind for youth classes), class t-shirt, and uniform pants (youth only). Students are more than welcome to find these on their own, but through our package you can save with our bulk orders.

Do you offer private lessons?
Yes, but let me talk you out of them. Huh? Don’t I make a lot of money out of them? Yes, they are expensive, which is why our group classes make more "cents". When you’re in a group class you get to train with several peoples’ body types, styles, and experiences� You can’t get that with private lessons. But for those set on them, or need them for extensive catch up work, yes we offer them. Just call me to talk about your individual goals.

What happens if me / my child has to take off prolonged periods of time for vacations, other sports, sickness, etc.?
Call me to figure out a plan� We’ve dealt with everything. Being proactive is the key (i.e. letting us know 2-4 weeks before a vacation), but in instances we can’t be proactive, we have an easy answer to get you back on track!

How often should I / my child attend class?
Two times a week is ideal, plus one mini workout at home is ideal (20-30 minutes). Would more classes help? Yes. Call me so we can talk about your individual goals.

Does your school compete?
Yes, but it is not the focus of our school. Call me so I can fill you in on the details.

Are your classes safe?
Incredibly! Most team sports are more dangerous. Did you know that Time Magazine ranked the most dangerous/injurious sports, and martial arts ranked #21 – AFTER bowling! Furthermore, our classes seem to make our students stronger and better prepared for other sports (strengthening joints, increasing flexibility, improving coordination/balance, etc.).

Do you separate your youth and adult classes?
Yes, this is a must. Most schools don’t do it – because they are focused on economy of business, not the student’s growth.

How early do you take children into your classes?
Age 4, but we have made occasional exceptions.

Do you need experience?
Nope. Does it help? Not always.

Do you have belts?
No, this is something which has been over commercialized in the last 20 years. However, we do have a structured system, so you can track your progress, and reach your goals.

Is your curriculum secret?
Absolutely not. If you want a copy just ask.

Who teaches the classes?
Me and my staff of 2 other instructors and 3 assistants (who only assist). We don’t rotate instructors on you every couple weeks, or have "top" students teach our classes� Don’t get me started on other schools.

Are there tests?
I see them more as assessments, where you get back feedback on your growth, so you can improve (and track your accomplishments!). So in the old sense, no, we won’t pull you out in front of a group to have you show some crazy sequence of moves which was created over 700 years ago.

Are your classes ‘spiritual’, meditative, or religion focused?
Weird question to some, but I get it every so often. The answer is no. There is no "humming" or meditating in our classes. I’m personally a Christian, but don’t put any parts of my faith into our lessons. On the other hand, if you have questions about my faith, never hesitate to call or talk to me after class. Other than my family, it is the one thing that has kept me grounded, made me "successful", and happy/balanced every day of my life� Really.

Dear Friend:

Females are one of our fastest growing student groups, and they should be. My name is Matt Numrich, and I am Owner and Head Instructor of Elite Defense Systems. Female groups should be one of the fastest growing groups, because this is the group attackers target. Compared to the average male attacker, most women on average are smaller, physically weaker, and more apt to be carrying shopping/grocery bags, holding kids, etc.

That is why you are a target. FBI statistics seem to back this up as well, as they say there is a rape here in the US every five minutes. That means by the time you are done reading this, another 2 more rapes occurred. I’m not saying this to scare you. I have a wife I love with my whole heart, and the last thing I want her to be – is scared… But I do want her to be aware and prepared. That is why you should keep reading.

Awareness is the first step. If you see the man who is about to attack you, he is less likely to in the first place – you’ve taken away the element of surprise, which is really the only thing this slime is counting on. Through our self-defense classes you’ll start to build automatic awareness of your surroundings and those who are in it.

Secondly, you have to be prepared. This is where the classes come in. They will show you how you can take the “fight” out of any guy – regardless of how big or strong he is. You learn about not only the “universal weak spots” (which are not hard to figure out), but the simple tools you can use to attack those. The cool bonus is that…
